Why the name?
Nav is short for navigation. Ilo means tool in Esperanto and joy in Finnish.
Navigation tool. Navigation joy. Ideally both.
Why I am building Navilo
I have always learned by building and fixing things. When I started Navilo, I kept coming back to a simple question: what is the minimum a tool needs to make a controlled curve?
I want directional drilling to be something a contractor can run themselves. That means a tool built around standard consumables, with only the parts needed to do its job, and no maintenance work for the user. The contractor receives a ready-to-run tool and exchanges it for a serviced one when service is due.
Navilo is still in development and the target is a tool a crew can run after onboarding, with a short operating guide that makes the important dos and don’ts clear.
Who decides where the hole goes?
Running the tool and deciding where to steer are different jobs.
On a hole with natural deviation, a supervisor or driller can use planning software to assess the hole and make the next decision. On more complex work, a geologist or directional specialist can plan the directional program and give the drilling crew clear instructions.

Meet André
André Hauderowicz
Founder
André is an engineer and former COO of a directional-drilling company. His background covers directional-drilling operations, field service, tool production and crew support.
He is a hands-on builder who prefers simple, available solutions over complex systems that need specialist support. Navilo is built around that same approach.
